I'm at a loss to know why James Purnell should be seen a bellweather for the future political direction of the Labour movement.
His recent statements suggest he's confused about the future. As well he might be having overseen regressive, punative welfare reforms in his capacity as former Secretary of State for Work and Pensions. Now out of office, he celebrates community development.
Meanwhile, the fight for the soul of the Party goes on.
