My sources have just astonished me with news that Birmingham, Erdington has already been shortlisted by the Labour Party. Applications only closed at 12 noon on Friday. The luck four are reported on The Stirrer to be....yes, the one Labour Party Deputy Leader, Harriet Harman, has been impatiently waiting for, for so long, Jack Dromey, together with former local councillor Steve Bedser and Washwood Heath councillor Ansar Ali Khan and Handsworth Wood councillor Gurdial Singh Atwal.
According to the Stirrer report:
Former Birmingham councillor Steve Bedser has been outlining his credentials to replace Sion Simon as Labour’s candidate in Erdington – and while he’s too diplomatic to criticise his maIn rival, union baron Jack Dromey, it’s clear that he’s positioning himself as the prime local choice in a duel against a nationally backed “outsider”.
It is alleged that longlisting and interviews resulted in other local candidates not getting a look in. I can only say it is a pity that the Labour Party is still failing to take advice and ensure an open and transparent selection process.
